ZED ZANZU (ESP): EZ
ZED ZANZU (ESP): EZ
What happens when the body becomes a space for trust, vulnerability and negotiation? Where do the boundaries between pain and pleasure, domination and surrender, activity and passivity lie? And what responsibilities do the artist and the audience share?
EZ is a performance project exploring power dynamics, consent, vulnerability and care through suspension, breath manipulation and shibari. Combining practices that are both extreme and tender, Zed Zanzu creates a space for dialogue around bodily boundaries, trust and mutual responsibility.
Meaning ‘NO’ in Basque, the title lies at the heart of the work: a genuine ‘YES’ is only possible when ‘NO’ is also an option. Is it a ritual, an act of sacrifice or a shared experience? Can we laugh? How do we negotiate our boundaries, and how do we care for one another?
EZ invites audiences into an immediate, sensory and emotional experience that challenges conventional relationships between performer and spectator, opening up questions around consent, freedom and trust.
The project has been recognised as a Circusnext laureate for its artistic and technical contributions, and its research has been referenced in various publications and academic works.
